The St. Augustine's Hospital Hyperbaric Medical Unit was established in 2000 by a team led by Drs Springate and Marshall. This marked a significant milestone as Durban's inaugural hospital-based hyperbaric oxygen therapy center and KZN's first hyperbaric unit to feature a multiplace chamber. Strategically positioned below the Level 1 Trauma Unit and in close proximity to the operating theatres and intensive care units, the unit's location optimizes patient accessibility and seamless integration with critical care services.
